Esther’s Story

Esther came to Suncrest with hypertensive heart disease accompanied by heart failure, but her daily smile never failed to touch the heart of all those around her. With the help of Suncrest and a local hot air balloonist, Esther, at the age of 90, was finally able to take the hot air balloon ride she had always dreamed of. The joy radiating off Esther was contagious, and as she described it, “It was marvelous! It was as though I was sitting in my own little chapel. I have never been so close to the Lord!

Rose’s Story

Rose was living in a homeless shelter when she received her lung cancer diagnosis. Our Suncrest staff spent countless hours facilitating and advocating for Rose before she was our patient. In her final days, Rose mentioned her fondness for the racetrack when she was younger. Knowing Rose would not make it until the spring to see a race, Suncrest coordinated with Knoxville Raceway and Museum to give Rose her day at the racetrack. She even got to sit in the driver’s seat! Less than a month after this day, Rose finished her final race, but she knew in the end that she was loved.
