A Wish Come True for James

From the very first time Alicia, RN Case Manager at Suncrest Hospice visited his house to the last, James always took the opportunity to go outside and sit on his porch during their visits. While some of those visits consisted of lengthy conversations about worldly events or life experiences, a few were spent with little to no words being spoken, wherein it was apparent James was reflecting on his life. Perhaps it was one of those reflections that enabled James to provide an answer to a question posed by Alicia: what would be on your bucket list James? He shared it’s been years since he had last ridden a horse, but it was his dream to enjoy that thrill once more and it became Alicia’s goal to ensure it happened. After taking this request back to the office to ask help from the Suncrest team, one of our team members came forward and shared she owned horses and would gladly help make this happen so he could relive one of his fondest memories. During their next visit Alicia shared the exciting news with James that his wish would soon be granted. The next few days our Suncrest Hospice team worked together to make this special day happen. Alicia stated, “It’s days like today that fill my bucket.” The joy we all saw in James’ face is hard to describe but that day will be something we will never forget. These are the moments as hospice workers we cherish and fill our own buckets.

“It’s days like today that fill my bucket.”
